Underground Prisoners Museum - Acco

The Underground Prisoners Museum in Acco is located inside a bastion on the northern part of the old city. The bastion was built during the Ottoman Empire rule on a crusader foundation and served as the palace of the region's sovereigns.
During the Mandate, the bastion and fortress served as the main prison house, where underground warriors from the Haganah, Etzel and Lechi were imprisoned when caught fighting for their independence.
The museum offers the visitor a unique experience in the same place where the historical events took place, depicting the prisoners' lives in jail and unfolding the story of breaking through the Acco jail in an audio-visual presentation.
Memorial halls commemorate the nine casualties of the breakthrough and the nine martyrs who were hung in the prison's block cell.
