The city of Acre, located north of Haifa, was firmly connected to the undergrounds' activities. In Acre prison the prisoners of Hagana, Etzel and Lechi were being held during the British mandate. In 1947 the Etzel carried out a bold jailbreak, releasing some of the prisoners. During the time the prison was active, nine Jewish prisoners were executed. Acre was conquered- by the Carmeli brigade in May 1948, completing the conquest of western Galilee.
