Kibbutz Ramat Yochanan in the Zebulon valley (east to Haifa) had served in the 1930's and 1940's as one of the Hagana's educational centers. In the War of Independence the kibbutz became a battle zone for the Carmeli brigade and the Druse battalion in Qawuqji's Arab Liberation Army, which invaded Israel from Lebanon.
