Kibbutz Mishmar Haemek, in Jazreel valley, served in the 1940's as a central training base for the Palmach. In the War of Independence it became a battle zone, where the Arab Liberation Army was defeated, by Palmach forces, Carmeli and Alexandroni. This battle was one of the cardinal battles in the first stages of the war.
