Three times the Jews tried to settle Gush Etzion, in the Hebron Mountain, about 20 kilometers south of Jerusalem. In 1927 a religious- orthodox settlement, named Migdal Eder, was built. It survived until the 1929 riots and then was destroyed. In 1932, the second attempt, Kefar Etzion was founded and it was destroyed in the 1936 riots. In 1943, the third attempt, Kefar Etzion was resurrected by a group of Hapoel Hamizrachi.
