Latrun is located in the crossroad of the lowland, Ayalon valley and Judea Mountains.
Prior to the state's foundation it was a British police camp and a holding camp, where Jewish prisoners were held. During the War of Independence strong battles over the road to Jerusalem were fought there, leaving Latrun in Jordanian possession. It was liberated in the Six- Day War.
